Idol News: Kara DioGuardi Officially Leaves 'Idol'

More than a month ago, I posted that Kara was rumored to be fired on the show. Well, it's official and Fox isn't using the word "fired," but that's exactly what happened. Ridiculous.

In a press statement released by Fox, Kara said, “I felt like I won the lottery when I joined AMERICAN IDOL two years ago, but I feel like now is the best time to leave IDOL”. Indeed, very interesting.

Now, on paper, Kara was qualified to be an 'Idol' judge. That said, it wasn’t the theory but the execution that was the problem with her. She was such a narcissist, or maybe had this grating television personality. Whatever her psychological issues, her need to be the center of attention whether for positive or negative reasons made her unsuitable to judge.

But to be fair, Kara wasn’t the only one last season who behaved poorly. Simon Cowell was a waste of space but he was out the door and half-way down the ramp from about Top 12 on and egged Kara on because she was an easy target and he was bored and had checked out.

Randy Jackson, on the other hand, did what he always does when he’s overshadowed and too tired to stake a claim as the most musically knowledgeable judge. He retreats to his little “Dawg pound” and shakes the Magic 8-ball of Randyisms after each contestant performed.

And then there’s poor Ellen DeGeneres, who started off looking fresh and interested and I think remained so as the season progressed but her spirit seemed to sag with every Kara-swipe or Simon diss, like a balloon with a slow leak. She seemed to doubt herself and really couldn’t add much, I think because she may have felt her “non-expert” comments weren’t helpful. It’s too bad because I like Ellen and think her heart was in the right place… the one thing missing on the judging panel when Paula didn’t get renewed.

Oh, and there's Ryan Seacrest. He was so “WTF?” this season, but I think he was probably beside himself trying to figure out how to corral the herd of cranky cats at the judging table.

Anyway, Kara did not make the most of this opportunity but I’m really sorry she’s gone. I'll miss Simon but I was somehow glad he's gone. I’m sad Ellen never really got a chance to feel in the grove and I’m hoping that Randy may have an opportunity to shine as the Daddy judge on the new judges panel.

As for, Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez? I’m cautiously optimistic that the critiques will be entertaining, relevant, non-cynical and not cruel for the sake of being cruel. That's all

Read the press release after the jump!:
Kara DioGuardi is stepping down from her role as a judge on AMERICAN IDOL. DioGuardi joined AMERICAN IDOL as a judge in the series’ eighth season.
“I felt like I won the lottery when I joined AMERICAN IDOL two years ago, but I feel like now is the best time to leave IDOL,” said DioGuardi. “I am very proud to have been associated with AMERICAN IDOL – it has truly been an amazing experience. I am grateful to FOX, FremantleMedia and 19 Entertainment, as well as the cast, crew and contestants, for all they have given to me. I look forward to my next challenge, and want to thank everyone who has supported me. All the best to everyone on Season 10!”
“Kara was a great addition to our IDOL family,” said Mike Darnell, President of Alternative Entertainment, Fox Broadcasting Company. “I’ve been fortunate to get to know her well, and have always been amazed by her eye for talent and her commitment to developing and mentoring artists. She will be missed, and we wish her continued success.”
“Kara is one of the world’s best songwriters,” stated IDOL creator and executive producer Simon Fuller. “She has been passionate and committed to IDOL over the last two seasons. I will miss having her on the show, but I look forward to working with her in music for many years to come.”
“As one of the most proclaimed songwriters in the U.S., Kara brought a wealth of experience and a unique perspective to AMERICAN IDOL,” said Cecile Frot-Coutaz, IDOL executive producer. “We are very grateful for the time she spent on the show, and we wish her nothing but the best in all her future endeavors.”
“Anyone who knows Kara knows that she brings an unbelievable amount of passion, creativity and humility to everything she does,” added IDOL executive producer Ken Warwick. “It has been a joy working with her on IDOL for the past two seasons, and I’m looking forward to seeing what she does next.”

Big Daddy Randy. I like that DAWG!

Oh well, hindi naman mga judges ang nagpapaganda sa American Idol, kundi ang mga contestants. But the contestants need guidance from our judges, so let's hope that the new judges will be a big help to our next American Idol hopefuls.

Den: I agree that even though the show is not about the judges, the chemistry between the judges on the show is very important.

The moment they put Kara on the judging panel, the producers obviously f*cked up the still working - though tired - chemistry of the 3 judges. I don't know.

Oh well, as long as the show becomes more about the contestants and less about the judges it won’t matter much.
