Interlude: 10 Memorable 'Idol' Moments

Last season, Paula Abdul already left the show and it was Simon Cowell’s last season. But no matter what happens to American Idol, the singing competition has left us with plenty of memories we'll forever cherish.

Suffice it to say, this show had its own fair share of controversies and scandals – aside from its greatest moments. These things make the show more interesting and unpredictable. Some were due to the fact that the show is live and anything can really happen.

Here are 10 of my favorites:

10 Frenchie Davis’ disqualification [Season 2]
After she acknowledged working for an adult website for four years, Frenchie Davis was disqualified from the competition. She argued, however, that she told the producers about the photos and they did nothing about it. But when the photos became public, she was kicked off the show. I wonder why Idol does this. Joanna Pacitti experienced that same thing when she was disqualified last year for being acquainted to some of the show’s producers.

09 Paula Abdul plays Nostradamus on Jason Castro [Season 7]
Paula Abdul had a lot to say about the two songs Jason Castro sung on American Idol that night – too bad he hadn't sung them both yet! In rare form, Paula blabbed on about Jason's two songs, after he had only performed once. Simon, Randy and Ryan all tried to help Paula along ... to no avail. The audience murmured. Contestants looked bewildered. Ryan Seacreast looked stage right for help. Cue the laughter. Then, Randy Jackson and Simon Cowell intervened. "Oh, my God," Paula said, "I thought you sang twice." More laughter. Epic Fail Paula.

08 Mario Vasquez quits; Nikko Smith replaces [Season 4]
This man could’ve given Carrie Underwood a run for her money during that season. Too bad. While I was really glad to see Nikko Smith back on the competition, I was shocked to see him quit the show. No reason was given that time aside from the usual “personal reasons”. Well early last year, TMZ obtained a sexual harassment lawsuit that was filed by a man who worked with Freemantle against Vasquez. Interesting.

07 Fantasia Barrino’s Bore Me [Season 7]
The red hair. The manic performance. The weird exit. It certainly didn’t bore me! This performance made Simon Cowell shocked – not in a good way. Ha! The camera even caught him staring in disbelief with his jaw clenched. Very funny night! Fantasia isn't anything but boring. For the record though, I loved this performance. Seriously.

06 Simon's Farewell [Season 9]
Nothing much to say aside from: AMERICAN IDOL WILL NEVER BE THE SAME WITHOUT SIMON COWELL. Seriously. I got teary eyed when the American Idol winners and some Idol alums got on  stage and pay tribute to Simon Cowell for the last time during the Finale. Though I did not agree with some of his critiques these past few years, his presence on the show will be surely missed. Heck, I miss him already!!

05 Chris Daughtry’s elimination [Season 5]
One of the many Idol shockers! Although I adore Katharine McPhee that season, his elimination that night was unexpected. That week, McPhee bombed most of her performances and Daughtry got lukewarm comments from the judges – Simon specifically. Contributing to the exit - Elliott, who was presumed to be the most vulnerable, came out firing, and Daughtry suffered from dreaded voter complacency.

04 Kara Dioguardi vs. Bikini Girl [Season 8]
This, to me, was the highlight of Season 8 – not Adam’s wailing nor Gokey’s screamfest – THIS! Kara definitely redeemed herself with this fearless “performance” with her rival – Bikini Girl! Nice job pawning the bikini chick! Finally she did something cool. Shocking. Hilarious. Revelatory. I could not ask for more. It was Kara’s shining moment and Bikini Girl’s downfall! With this, I believe, she has finally earned her spot on the show. Haha.

03 Jennifer Hudson’s elimination [Season 3]
Her premature elimination sparked some controversy over whether the results were motivated by race or by the presence of fellow contestants with similar vocal styles. Whatever the reason for her early departure from the competition, it could not stop Hudson from catapulting to stardom. Years after her departure from the American Idol, she got cast as a Dreamgirl, won an Oscar, released a certified Gold album and became one of the most sought after actresses in Hollywood. Not too shabby for a 7th placer.

02 Kelly Clarkson’s coronation [Season 1]
On its very first season, American Idol needed to establish its credibility as a legitimate talent competition by finding the best undiscovered singer in America. Fortunately, the show found Kelly Clarkson and she hasn't slowed down since taking home the crown. 4 albums. 10 million copies sold. International superstar. Nothing beats the original and her coronation sealed the show’s fate as a genuine star maker and as the biggest show in the planet.

01 Fantasia Barrino’s coronation [Season 3]
I cried. Haha. This was the first season where I fully invested myself on the show. Her coronation as the new American Idol was probably THE most emotional moment on the show. Her final song still sends shivers down my spine – it was really good! Powerful beyond all belief. This, I believe, was the Best American Idol winning performance and I do think that no one will ever top it. This is the moment I will never forget.. EVER!
