American Idol 10: Top 11 Theme

American Idol Season 10's Top 11 theme is the very fresh and new, Motown! Haha. Ok. Maybe not. But, I honestly think that this theme is a great idea - even if it’s been done before - just because some people need to be forced out of their comfort zone in order to truly shine.

It's funny, because a couple of months before this season started, Nigel Lythgoe mentioned that the theme for this year will focus on decades than genre as they want the contestants to focus on what they're good at. So, why the sudden change?

I like the idea though. I mean, I like having theme weeks. I think it shows how creative the contestants can be. Who can take a song out of their wheelhouse and make it fit their style? Who can adapt themselves to a theme or adapt a song to their style? True, we’ve had some trainwrecks over the years, but without the theme weeks, we never would have gotten some of the great performances we’ve had either. To me, a contestant always taking a song from the same genre and not changing anything week after week is boring, karaoke and shows zero creativity.

This will be really interesting!

Performers on results show: Jennifer Hudson and Sugarland.
