Movie Review: After Earth

I understand that Will Smith loves his son, and probably wants the best for him, but giving Jaden the lead role in a movie was a complete disaster. I mean, if he wants to bond with his son, they should just go fishing or something, and not make a terrible movie. Ok, After Earth wasn't THAT awful, but it was utterly charmless, dull, and borderline dumb. There was no character development whatsoever, the visual effects looked cheap, and I seriously didn't sense any real danger - in the end, it was just an empty film. Oh, and Will Smith came out dry and wooden, and Jaden Smith was shrill, annoying, and quite painful to watch. I could go on and on. Not even sure why Hollywood kept on giving M. Night Shyamalan money to direct movies as after The Sixth Sense everything has been a wild tumble downhill. After Earth just failed miserably. Save your money. 3.5
